Here are the events our club is putting on for the rest of 2016:
Started in 2011, this will be our 6th annual Cowbell Classic time trial. Go to our website or to USA Cycling for more information, but be there around 8am Labor Day morning, at the north end of Deer Park Road in St. Cloud for your choice of a 20K or a 40K time trial. Or if you're crazy like Debbie Phelps, do them both! $25 on site entry fee. $20 in advance if you sign up here. Non USA Cycling members can get a one day license for $10.
Special awards from Kyle's Bike Shop, Werxx Cycling and Sanford Brewing. Bring your cowbells!
The inaugural event of what we hope will become an annual classic. Located in East Orlando, the Lake Rise Actions Sports Center is an ideal location for an outdoor event, especially cyclocross. There will be LOTS to do for riders, families and spectators. The facility is on a deep, clear lake, with a tow wire going all the way across for skiing and wake boarding. Not sure when it will be open but the owners tell us they will have it open a few times during the weekend. In the meantime, watch or ride in the cyclocross races on a challenging course designed to test the abilities of all levels of riders, featuring two wooden "fly over" bridges.
USACycling.org has the sign up page, and the official flier is posted below. First race on each day is $35, $15 for each additional race. Entry to Lake Rise is $5 per vehicle.
This annual event is in its 5th year. On Black Friday, Nov 24th, we will start around 9a, from Fenstads at the top of Sugarloaf Mountain Road (where the water stop is.) The 8.8 mile loop features some gradual climbs and a couple of steep climbs, finishing at teh top of the hardest climb in Florida, Sugarloaf Mountain Road. It's only 200 feet up but it happens in about 1800 feet of road, for an average of 11% grade, and a couple of spots where it's around 16%.
The course record is just over 20 minutes, which is an amazing average of over 26mph(!). This event isn't permitted yet but you can inquire from our website for more information about registering.
Orlando Runners and Riders is a non-profit organization that promotes health and well being through exercise in central Florida. We are affiliated with Kyle's Bike Shop as some of our members are also members of the USA Cycling club, "Team Kyle's Bike Shop."
